Our Hero

I see you everyday
Through the eyes of our daughter
She’ll never know her father
But she will see you in her reflection

I tell her stories and show her pictures
She looks at me so proud
She wears your medal on her heart
But guards it with her life

She tells her friends and teachers
“My Daddy’s a hero, but he died in the war”
I know you’ll watch over both of us
If only we could hug you once more

Today is her birthday, six she will be
And the present she wants most is to see you
We have brought a wreath of poppies with a single red rose
With the message, “My Dad, My Hero”

You are a hero to many
Your country, me and our daughter
She grows each day and is the image of yourself
You will never be forgotten, you’re our hero.
